FAQ

What is the difference between a Salt & Pepper Mill?

Fletchers’ Mill Pepper Mills are fitted with a stainless-steel two-step mechanism which first cracks the peppercorns to release their natural oils and flavors, and then grinds the peppercorns to your chosen consistency. The stainless-steel mechanism is designed for grinding pepper and offers a wide range of grinds from fine to coarse.

Salt Mills have an adjustable nylon crushing system. We feature nylon as it will not corrode when using salt. It too offers multiple grind settings.

Can you use salt in a pepper mill?

No, Salt will corrode the stain-steel mechanism.

Can you use peppercorns in a salt mill?

No, the peppercorns will not grind correctly.

How do you fill the mills?

Remove the top nut, take the top of the mill off and fill with salt or pepper. Replace top. While pushing up on the bottom of the mechanism tighten the top nut so it is flush with the bottom of the grinding mechanism.

The tighter the top nut, the finer the grind.

How do you change the grind setting?

All mills have multiple grind settings. Turn the top nut clockwise for a fine grind and counterclockwise for a coarse grind.

Is there a warranty?

There is a lifetime warranty on the mechanisms of our wooden mills. The body of the mill is not warrantied.

Please note that water or moisture can damage the wood finish and affect the performance of the mill. Water damage will void the warranty.

Are your products Prop 65 compliant?

All glue, paint and finish formulas are proprietary and have been tested and meet all requirements for CA Prop 65 compliance.

Can other spices be used in the mills?

We have not tested additional spices in the mills.

Are there any salts that should not be used?

Moist Sea Salts such as Celtic salt are too moist for our mechanisms. We recommend using dry coarse salt.
